This year’s Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild AGM took place at the Lansdowne Club on Wednesday 11th May. It was very well attended by Presidents and their Vice Presidents from all over the country, with Mrs Lois Sampson and Mrs Lynn Benge travelling from Scotland. This was the first time Mrs Benge of Inverness-shire had attended the AGM.
Mrs Gillie Jackson, Chairman of the Trustees, together with Mrs Majella Forster, Chairman of the Executive Committee both gave reports on the Guild’s activities over the last 12 months. Reports followed from Mrs Sharon Stewart, Honorary Treasurer, Mrs Daphne Clarke, President of the Royal Group, and Mrs Rachel Parry, Co-Ordinator Schools and DofE Scheme. Here is the full Annual Report
Mr Julian Avery, President of the St Michael’s Hospice in Lewes gave a most interesting talk on the work of the hospice and how its rebuilding after a serious fire last summer.
The Lansdowne Club, a familiar site for QMCG AGM’s, was again very hospitable and Presidents enjoyed catching up over tea and cakes before departing at 4.15pm.
Mrs Etta Brown, of Tain, Ross-shire, was awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours for her work with Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild. Etta joined QMCG in 1990 and has knitted countless items for the supported charities.
Last year her group provided 750 items that were distributed to groups of Women’s Aid in Aberdeen, Allness, Dingwall, Glasgow, Stornaway and Wick as well as to Cardinal Winning in Glasgow.
QMCG thanks Etta for her enthusiasm and energy.
